Woodlands Explains: Injectable Skincare

If you’ve been reading up on the latest beauty treatments recently, you may have seen that there’s been a huge rise in the popularity of “injectable skincare”. Sometimes referred to as “skin boosters”, these products are designed to treat the skin from within by replenishing its supply of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. HA is commonly found in many dermal fillers, however, unlike dermal fillers, injectable skincare products are not designed to “fill” lines and wrinkles but to actually improve the overall quality of the skin.

There have been a number of these products on the market for several years, however, with more research being dedicated to this area of aesthetics, the products that are now available are more effective than ever before.

At Woodlands, we offer two injectable skincare products; Profhilo and Sunekos. Both contain HA and are extremely versatile products which can be used to treat various areas of the face and body. Over time, patients who are treated with either Profhilo or Sunekos will notice a significant difference to the hydration, plumpness and laxity of their skin. Unlike other injectable products, Profhilo and Sunekos have very subtle, natural looking results. Most patients find that they look “well” but not like they’ve had anything “done”, which makes them ideal treatments for those who would prefer not to go down the route of Botox or dermal filler just yet.

Profhilo

Profhilo contains a high concentration of HA which, when injected, spreads and integrates into the tissue. Once integrated, it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which gives the skin a slight plumpness as well as improving the overall tone and texture.

It is commonly used on the face, however, it is also effective on areas of “crepey” skin, such as the neck and inner arms.

During treatment Profhilo is injected at five strategic points on either side of the face. These five points are considered to be the optimum areas for placement of HA. For best results, patients are required to have two treatment sessions at one month apart. The results of a Profhilo treatment last for around six months.

Sunekos

Unlike Profhilo, Sunekos contains a combination of HA AND amino acids, which help to actually regenerate the skin. This is known as “dermal biogenesis”.

Sunekos is available in two formulations; Sunekos 200, which contains HA at a low molecular weight and is more commonly used on younger, less wrinkled skin, and Sunekos 1200, which contains HA at a medium molecular weight and can be used in combination with Sunekos 200 to treat more severe wrinkles and sagging skin. It is effective in a number of areas including the face, under eye bags, neck, chest, backs of hands and knees.

A Sunekos treatment involves the product being injected directly into the treatment area via a number of small injections using a needle or cannula. It is recommended that patients undergo a course of treatments, with one session per week for three to four weeks. Like Profhilo, results will last for approximately six months.
