The Woodlands Guide to Winter Skin

As we get into the colder months we may notice that our skin isn’t looking as bright and clear as it usually does. Frosty temperatures outside, combined with stuffy central heating and extra hot baths can wreak havoc with your skin, so it’s really worth amping up your skincare this winter. In just the same way that we change up our clothing seasonally, we should also change our skincare, moving from the lightweight products we usually reach for in the warmer weather, to more nourishing products during winter.

Keep reading for our five top tips to help your skin survive the cold weather!

Hydrate

Of course, we know that hydration is always an integral part of a good skincare regime, but as the temperature drops it’s even more important. The constant change in extreme temperatures as we go from the cold outside to the warmth inside can really strip the skin of essential oils, leading to dry patches and flakiness. To combat this, make sure you’re using a really hydrating serum or moisturiser to help restore that all important hydration. The Dermaquest Essential B5 Hydrating Serum helps to attract and retain moisture in the skin, helping it stay firm and plump.

It’s also worth swapping over your cleanser to something a little more gentle and creamy. Many cleansers contain active ingredients that are great at getting rid of dirt and oil on the skin, but when your skin is already dry and dehydrated, they can exacerbate the problem. Dermaquest’s Essential Daily Cleanser is a gentle foaming cleanser that draws away dirt and impurities from the skin without stripping away natural moisture.

Replenish overnight

Before you go to bed, load your skin with nutrients that can work while you’re sleeping. A rich, nourishing moisturizer or mask is the perfect antidote to tired, dry skin and will sink into the skin while you sleep, leaving you with a softer, plumper complexion the next morning. The Nourishing Peptide Rich Moisturizer from Dermaquest provides immediate relief for drier skin types, while conditioning the skin and keeping it supple.

Exfoliate

If you notice your skin is looking more dull than usual, it’s probably due to a build up of dead skin cells caused by the dryness we mentioned earlier. It can be tempting to scrub at dull or flakey skin in an attempt to see instant improvement, but the best approach is to be gentle. Invest in a chemical or gentle manual exfoliant and use it a few times a week to help improve the tone and texture of your skin.

The Dermaquest Algae Polishing Scrub is a plastic-free scrub containing jojoba beads which remove excess skin cells through gentle exfoliation. Regular use of this product will help the skin to absorb hydrating products more effectively, resulting in better results all around with your skincare.

Use an antioxidant

Free radicals, caused by pollution and many other factors, travel through the body and can promote inflammation, which in turn can cause skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Our body has its own defense mechanisms to fight these free radicals, but in the winter, when we are more likely to be run down or under the weather, it can help to give your body a boost by eating antioxidant rich foods to help fight harmful free radicals. You can also give your skincare a boost by using a serum containing antioxidants too.

Dermaquest’s C Infusion Serum is a powerful antioxidant serum containing extra-active vitamin C: BV-OSC, which protects the skin from harmful free radicals that cause fine lines and wrinkles.

Treat yourself to a facial

As well as being a great way to relax and unwind, a facial is the perfect opportunity to let an expert take a closer look at your skin, diagnose any conditions and recommend the most suitable products for home use. At Woodlands, we offer the full range of Dermaquest professional facials. These facials are results-driven, using advanced formulas which containing antioxidants, plant stem cells and hyaluronic acid.
